What is The Internet Giveaway?
The Internet Giveaway is the decision in which President Obama takes to give up U.S. protection of the open Internet. His administration is now considering how to give away power to other governments in which most want censored Internet. The main risk of government control is to root zone the Internet, that is protected by the U.S. government through its contract with Icann. Its goal is to replace the open Internet with full government control and global censorship. Congress has used budget bills to defund actions done by Obama administration to end the U.S. contract with Icann, through this past month. The Obama administration doesn't acknowledge that the open Internet reflects the American values of free speech and open innovation. The Internet of today wont survive if other governments get their way. So until there is a new president, its up to Congress to insist that the U.S. remains the source of Internet freedom.
